As you might have noticed, I spend lots of ton of time with my mom, and we usually have dinner together at least once a week. Of course, we had a spectacular Mother's Day brunch as a family, and we will have her birthday dinner in a couple of weeks! Lately, we have been helping with my sister's wedding, so most of our time together has been spent in intense brainstorming and planning sessions. Well, I wanted to give her a present to help her have a relaxing night at home, and maybe we could enjoy it together. :) I wanted to include a special note to her, so I made a trip to Walmart to browse the entire Hallmark section for the perfect card and tuck in a special surprise, but more on that later...
Here is an idea for a Throwback Thursday gift basket that you can give to your mom, sister, friend, or anyone that is special to you!
First stop, the card aisle at Walmart!
Oh, scratch that... TWO card aisles!
Omg. Seriously, there is a card for everything and there were so many that I wanted to buy once I was there. Luckily, there is a great way to save through the Hallmark Card Rewards Program! For every 5 cards you buy, you earn a reward. Not only that, but there is an entire Hallmark Value Card selection at Walmart, for even more savings. Nice!
Since I wanted this to be a Throwback Thursday gift basket I decided to print off a photo at the Walmart Photo Center. There is the regular photo center, and a super easy and convenient Digital Photo Center as well! Quick tip: definitely advantage of the one-hour printing at the beginning of your shopping trip, and by the time you are done, it'll be all printed and ready for you!
The touch screen machines are super simple, and you can bring in your camera memory card or a flash drive, like I did with my digital files. Super simple!
I picked a friendship card that was super sweet and cute! I made sure to write a nice note on the card and tucked the photo inside. It was one of our first photos together after I was born! Definitely one that she will love. :)
All was left is to make the basket! I wanted to select a bunch of treats that she loves and reminds me of times we spent together in the past. Here are the items that I included...
- Brownie Brittle: For all those times that she baked brownies for us kids!
- A tin of Chai tea: Perfect for a night inside!
- Girly movies: Four DVDs of my mom's favorite movies, because even though she has a Blu-Ray player, she doesn't quite understand how to use it... Hey, it's a Throwback gift basket anyways!
- Nail polish: Because it's a girl's night in, just like old times!
I packed it in a wooden basket I made (that I know she secretly wanted) and lined it with a couple of tea towels. All in all, a simple way to say how much she means to me as a mom and a friend.
I'm so excited to gift this to her, especially because she will not be expecting it at all. :)
