Project Inspiration + Confessions of an Emotional Pinner ~ Diane's Vintage Zest!

Project Inspiration + Confessions of an Emotional Pinner

Let's say that you're a reasonably crafty girl who has her sights set on making the perfect home decor item/dessert/dress.  Where do you look for inspiration?

As for me, I could not live with Pinterest.  In the old days, it used to be Real Simple magazine and Martha Stewart on TV.  But with everything digital, it is so much easier and faster to compose a board of all the things I love on this super easy website/app, especially when I'm on the go.

From there, I've found blogs that I find myself subscribing to, and then more pinners that I follow, and so on, and so on...

Then, I fall into that pit of despair thinking, "I could never make anything as lovely as her!" or "Why bother putting all this work into something that will just end up looking homemade when I could just buy it?"

Sewing fail: Drawstring mat for my scraps that doesn't close all the way.

Yes, it is easy to feel less than ordinary when you see all of the amazing ideas and projects on Pinterest.  But I have to remind myself that it is a way to receive inspiration, and although it would be great to have the perfect home, dinner, and wardrobe, I should to be thankful for what I have!

So, I think of the blogs/pinners that I follow as coaches in my corner for their respective fields.  On a day like today, when I need to take my mind off of some scary career changes, I choose to get lost in a project or a blog.

My favorite blogs, in no particular order (but grouped by topic), are as follows!

Home/Organizing

IHeart Organizing:  Plain and simple, her checklists put mine to shame!  I don't know how she is able to do all that she does with children and an Etsy shop to run.  Her home is impeccable and so inspiring.

House of Smiths:  Great ideas for DIY at home.  I just wish I had all those tools to make those awesome projects...

Cooking

Smitten Kitchen: One of the biggest food blogs out there.  The first blog I ever subscribed to!

Can You Stay For Dinner: She is funny and honest about everything in her life, including her dramatic weight loss.  I admire her spirit and her recipes range from super healthy to super indulgent!

Handle the Heat: I love the recipes that she chooses.  It's like having someone test out all of the recipes that I would choose for myself!  Like above, she has a wide range of recipes from healthy to not-so-much and has a "Recipe Rundown" system that I really like.

honey & jam: These are some of the most scrumptious desserts that I've ever seen photographed.  Yum!

SPROUTED KITCHEN: The recipes are simple and rustic.  The photography is utterly mouth-watering.  See above for proof.

Desserts for Breakfast:  Beautiful desserts and beautiful photography together make for a dangerous combination!

Sewing

Coletterie: From the makers of Colette patterns.  Focuses on the retro details that I love!

Adventures in Dressmaking: She is great at finding inspiration from places like Anthropologie or fashion blogs, and refashioning existing items or patching together existing patterns to get the right look.

mimi g.: I love that she makes patterns look modern, and her styling is ridiculously awesome!  I always look forward to her OOTD (outfit of the day).

Gertie's New Blog for Better Sewing: I admire retro styles, and she is obvious inspiration for making clothes like her one day!  I can't wait for the Sew L.A. event this Sunday.  :)

P.S. - I made this:  Yes, this is probably more crafting than sewing, but it has tons of DIY projects to wear.

Party Planning

Lovely Little Details: She easily makes my favorite floral arrangements!  Her details really are lovely.

Rinse Repeat: I'm not sure that she belongs in the party planning category, but she makes lovely invitations, etc.  I love her photography, sassiness, and travel stories!

Something Turquoise: Her tutorials for all kinds of party details are so pretty and easy to follow.  So inspiring!

On the slate for today, catching up with a couple of blogs and deep breathing so I don't stress out too much over tomorrow!  Eek!
